Exploring Historic Essex with my Wife | Ingatestone, Fryerning, Mill Green (4K)

This fantastic Essex walk takes us through the historic rural villages around the ancient town of Ingatestone, just 25 miles from Central London. The High Street follows the course of the Roman road from London to Chelmsford and there have been a number of Roman remains found in the area. Roman bricks and tiles can be found in the 15th century church tower of St Edmund and St Mary, Ingatestone and also embedded in the Norman walls of St. Mary Fryerning. Also in Fryerning we see Fryerning Hall which Arthur Mee says contains timbers as old as the church. Our walking route crosses fields as we pick up the St. Peter's Way long distance path and follow it to Mapletree Lane believed to be part of a Roman road. We stopped for an excellent pub lunch at The Viper country inn, Mill Green before walking through the woods looking for the ancient earthwork of Moore's Ditch. We also discuss the history around Mill Green Common. Our wonderful Essex walk ends back at Ingatestone High Street.
