“Gump” - Devin Townsend Project f(Studio Play-Thru) Here, for the first time, is a full studio play thru of ‘Gump’ by the DTP. A rare B-Side track, fan favourite from the Transcendence album. This song never made the ‘Transcendence’ album but was a fan favourite on the Bonus Disc we released for Transcendence. The whole band loved the song, but Dev felt it didn’t flow with the vibe of the main record so he put it on the bonus disc, which made sense. It’s funny because the rest of us were totally bummed it wasn’t on the main record. We all wanted it on the main album. But Dev had a vision that obviously worked well for Transcendence. I think we played Gump live like once or twice and that was it. Glad it was released in some form tho! As for the drumming, it’s a SUPER fun song to play. Some fun grooves, time signatures, double bass and fills throughout. It was probably my most favourite song to record in the studio for this album along with ‘Failure’, ‘Higher’ and ‘Stormbending’. Fun Fact: In this play through you’ll hear a click track and the exact tracks that I played to at @armourystudios. Drums are way up in the mix so you can hear what I’m doing. Love this song, one of my favourites from ‘Transcendence’, which also happens to be my favourite DTP record. I have great memories recording this album and it was the perfect send off album for the DTP. Grateful. Hope you guys enjoy this play-thru! RVP
