I can't be the only one who wonders why nobody has ever gone back for it, right? I'm not suggesting anyone should — just exploring why nobody has. One American pilot dropped one bomb on Japan's flagship aircraft carrier, and within a day her own crew had to sink her themselves. The Akagi went down on June fifth, nineteen forty two, and has been sitting on the ocean floor ever since. More than three miles down. Largely intact. The imperial chrysanthemum still visible on her bow. Anti-aircraft guns still pointing at the sky. And nobody is allowed to touch her.
