The Troubled History Of Van Damme’s Double Trouble: Two Movies That Were Kicked, Bent, And Battered

In our latest episode, we explore the behind the scenes history of Double Team, the 1997 Jean-Claude Van Damme action film directed by Tsui Hark and co-starring Dennis Rodman and Mickey Rourke. It looks at how the film came together, from its early development as The Colony to the rewrites, production changes, studio interference, and the strange mix of action, comedy, and spectacle that turned it into one of the most unusual Van Damme movies of the 1990s. This is also a double feature, because the story continues with The Quest. That second episode was originally planned as a standalone piece, but a couple of days before we were going to release it, I saw that JoBlo had put out their own episode on it. Because of that, we decided to hold ours back, and released the episode on Van Damme's Knock Off instead.
