Right String Wrong Yo-Yo, Cannonball Rag, Thumbpicking Craziness!
Hit up my Patreon for in depth stuff like this. (I actually go even more in depth over there) You can get there by going here ---- / sixstringtwangin Let your thumb out of the cage! Tired of the same old I IV V chord progression when you're Travis Picking, playing that Rockabilly song? Let's get freaky with extended dominants to really spice up your sound. You thumb pick that sucker and it'll sound like a million buckaroos! This is great for Rockabilly, Country, Blues, even Folk music. This is the same chord progression as Carl Perkin's song "Right String, Wrong Yo-Yo". It is ALSO the same chord progression as Merle Travis' "Cannonball Rag", although Merle's measures are shortened a bit in his song, but there are examples of both in this lesson. IF YOU ARE NEW TO TRAVIS PICKING! I made a lesson a few years ago. Like I said in this video, I don't mean to toot my own horn, but I think this is the best Travis Picking, Chet Picking, Thumb style, Thumb Picking lesson out there. What I do is walk you through how I learned how to do it. These are the steps I took to be able to make it click. • HOW I LEARNED TO TRAVIS PICK - Lesson To G... This style is one of the most satisfying things, if not THE most, that I have ever learned on guitar. Especially for when you pick up an acoustic and want to really sound good. This is it. Gear used: Guitar: Gretsch 6120 EC (Eddie Cochran model) Amp: Peavey Delta Blues 1X12 tweed tube amp. No Pedals Mic: (for amp) Shure SM57 Mic: (for speaking) Rode WiGo II Camera: Canon EOS RP Guitar is set to middle position engaging both single coil pickups. Bridge: Dynasonic Neck: Lindy Fralin P90 dog ear You probably can't hear it, but the amp is actually on the dirty channel with just the tiniest bit of overdrive. You could hear it if I switched the pickup selector to one pickup or the other and strummed it hard. Enjoy!
