The air loss rate for a STRAIGHT TRUCK or BUSS with the ENGINE OFF and the BRAKES ON should not be more than: ANSWER: 3 PSI in ONE MINUTE. Question 30. The air brake system for a STRAIGHT TRUCK or BUS should not leak at a rate of MORE than HOW MANY PSI per minute with the ENGINE OFF and the BRAKES RELEASED. ANSWER: 2 PSI. My comments: Although the two questions appear similar, they are not the same. Question 28 has the BRAKES ON. Question 30 has BRAKES RELEASED. Is BRAKES ON the same as BRAKES RELEASED? No. They are not the same. Brakes on means that the brakes are engaged. Brakes released means that the brakes are not engaged. In my opinion, the final authority is the CDL manual. https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/sites/fmcsa... However, you may not be always able to find the correct answer in the manual, so I use Google sometimes. [c] Neither a or b. [d] All of the above. The correct answer is, "What does the manual say?" 5.2 – Dual Air Brake, Paragraphs 5 & 6. Before driving a vehicle with a dual air system, allow time for the air compressor to build up a minimum of 100 psi pressure in both the primary and secondary systems. Watch the primary and secondary air pressure gauges (or needles, if the system has two needles in one gauge). Pay attention to the low air pressure warning light and buzzer. The warning light and buzzer should shut off when air pressure in both systems rises to a value set by the manufacturer. This value must be greater than 60 PSI. The warning light and buzzer should come on before the air pressure drops below 60 PSI in either system. If this happens while driving, you should stop right away and safely park the vehicle. If one air system is very low on pressure, either the front or the rear brakes will not be operating fully. This means it will take you longer to stop. Bring the vehicle to a safe stop, and have the air brakes system fixed. #barrybranton #cdl #clp
