Henry Jenkins: The influence of participatory culture on education
Students today are caught between the way they communicate today and old approaches to learning. But according to USC Professor Henry Jenkins while they want structured learning like standardized tests, they've also been raised on interactive blogs, gaming and fan sites that encourage participation and creativity. Jenkins calls for education to become open, collaborative and accessible. Specializing in the effects of participatory media on society, politics and culture, Jenkins is a professor of communication, journalism and cinematic Arts at USC. He is also co-author of "Spreadable Media: Creating Value and Meaning in a Networked Society", and worked with the MacArthur Foundation to develop a media literacy program.
