Aging Book: The Tale (Prologue)

“The Tale” is the foundational communicative frame I deploy in my new book Aging and the Ethics of Longevity Science. The details of the Tale will be the focus of the next video I publish. In this video-- the Prologue to the Tale -- I address the the 6 key bits of information the Tale is designed to fill with respect to the knowledge gap in the public’s current understanding of the societal importance of slowing aging in the twenty-first century. These 6 bits of information are: (1) The deceleration of increases in life expectancy; (2) The growing global healthspan– lifespan gap; (3) The role biological aging plays in the onset of chronic disease, frailty, and disability; (4) The feasibility of targeting biological aging; (5) The persistence of health disparities caused by the life course exposure to environmental (e.g., poverty and racism) and lifestyle factors that can accelerate aging; and (6) the limitations of continuing to pursue the War Against Disease strategy in an aging world. My book Aging and the Ethics of Longevity Science will be available to access for free online from Oxford University Press in late August 2026.
