At the Okayama Prefectural High School Athletic Meet, in the individual judo competitions, top athletes in both the boys' and girls' divisions showcased their strength and secured their tickets to the Inter-High School Championships. (Announcer Naoki Matsushima) "In the individual judo competition, the focus is on Rio Shirogane, a third-year student from Soshi Gakuen High School, who won the 2025 World Championships and the National High School Championships in March. With a proven track record, she will be aiming for her third consecutive prefectural championship." Shirogane entered the competition in the quarterfinals of the girls' 52kg division. She displayed overwhelming skill from the very first match. Immediately after the start, she went for a hold-down… preventing her opponent from counterattacking and winning with a kesa-gatame (scarf hold). She advanced safely to the final. Against Akari Sakai, a first-year student from Okayama Gakugeikan High School, Shirogane attacked aggressively. Immediately after the start, she scored a waza-ari (half point) with a throw, and then followed up with a hold-down for an ippon (full point). She achieved her third consecutive prefectural championship and secured her place in the Inter-High School Championships. In the men's individual competition, three athletes, including Kento Nakatani of Sakuyo Gakuen, who achieved 22 consecutive victories in the team competition, won their respective weight classes, securing their places in the Inter-High School Championships along with the team. The summer Inter-High School Judo Championships will be held in Wakayama Prefecture from August 6th.
