Die Ikone - Fenster zum Göttlichen -
A film by Angelos Abazoglou and Mohamed Elfeki The term "icon" comes from the Greek "icon," meaning image or likeness. Today, it refers to a religious image painted on a wooden panel. For Orthodox Christians, however, it is above all the profound visual expression of their faith, a theology of colors. While icons are exhibited like works of art in many museums, in Orthodox families and churches they are objects of veneration and meditation. A trip to the Sinai Peninsula and Greece illustrates the special nature of icons.
