This is the third in a series of articles marking the 100th anniversary of the Great Kanto Earthquake. While 90% of the 105,000 victims of the earthquake died in fires, the death toll from the shaking reached 13,000, the highest since the Meiji era. Among these, the landslides that occurred mainly in Kanagawa Prefecture resulted in many casualties, including engulfing entire villages.
