Controversy! Wally Wood: 'MAD' Genius at Marvel
In this video we look at the brilliant illustrator Wally Wood's brief stints at Marvel during the Silver Age of comic books, and his work with such creators as Stan Lee, Roy Thomas, Larry Lieber, Bob Powell and others. It makes for an interesting comparison with the accounts from John Romita and Steve Ditko (covered in other videos on this channel). With respect to Marvel, Wood is particularly known for his run on 'Daredevil', but he also produced other noteworthy material - including the Doctor Doom stories that appeared in 'Astonishing Tales'. Sadly, he never stayed long, but all of his work for the company is well worth checking out. This will likely be the last video on this channel for a while. They take a while to do, and a number of viewers have understandably disliked the use of an artificial narrator and the simplistic production. Regardless, we've tried to put in as much esoteric comics history as we could find and will keep everything available on the channel for the foreseeable future. Feel free to make any comments. We do check them all and will generally accept anything that isn't purely a complaint about the voice or production value. In terms of sources, these are again listed at the end of the video. If you are looking to match up quotes/sources you can find everything in 'The Romita Version: Exploring John Romita's Accounts of Spider-Man, Stan Lee and the Marvel Method (1966 - 1971)' which is available on the Comic Book Historians site.
