2026 BMW X7 XDrive40i: Driving Impressions | Car Conversations

Today we are driving the 2026 BMW X7. The X7 is a very luxurious, feature rich, and technologically advanced luxury family SUV from BMW, and even after 8 years, it is still very impressive. Some of the features include 5 zone climate control, heated and cooled front seats, heated second and third row seats, power soft close, and available glass crystal headlights and controls. With the XDrive40i model, you get a turbocharged 3.0L I6 engine putting out 375 horsepower and 383 pound feet of torque. That is mated to an 8 speed automatic transmission that is very smooth but quick to respond. Even though the 6 cylinder is the base engine option, it is still very powerful and does 0-60 in 5.5 seconds. The ride quality is absolutely amazing with the air suspension, and you barely feel the bumps. Compared to the body on frame competitors, the X7 feels less cumbersome and easier overall to drive around town and fit in tight spaces. It is smaller than its competitors like the Cadillac Escalade and Jeep Grand Wagoneer, so that helps with the drivability and maneuverability. Of course, there is plenty of power from the inline 6 cylinder, but if you need the most performance, the M60i model will give you a turbocharged V8 putting out 523 horsepower and 553 pound feet of torque. On the highway, you will quickly find that the X7 is a very pleasant vehicle to daily drive and road trip in. The cabin stays super hushed because BMWs are some of the quietest vehicles on the road. There is also a host of driver assistance features like the automatic lane changing feature where you can look at the mirror and the car will automatically change lanes. It is also super comfortable on the inside with all the luxury and features. For handling, the X7 handles very well for a 5,500 pound full sized SUV, but of course, it is a BMW. Overall, the X7 remains a very impressive and luxurious SUV. There is plenty of space and the interior is crazy fancy and tech rich. The driving experience is also amazing. Would you buy this over the Cadillac Escalade or Mercedes GLS? Leave your thoughts in the comments section down below. Thanks for watching!
