Saint Augustine attempted to explain it by saying that: ✨ the Father is the one who loves, ✨ the Son is the beloved, ✨ and the Holy Spirit is the living Love between them. In other words, God is not solitude. God is eternal relationship. God is the divine family. God is perfect love. Saint Catherine of Siena described the Trinity as an infinite ocean into which the soul plunges, never ceasing to discover its depths. And Saint Patrick used the shamrock to explain how three distinct Persons can exist, sharing a single divine nature. The Holy Trinity is not just a topic for theological study. It is the heart of the Christian life. We were created to live united to the Father, through the Son, and in the Holy Spirit. Every prayer, every Mass, and every authentic spiritual life leads us toward that divine communion.
