'ഭക്തിയുടെ രൗദ്രഭാവം' എന്നാണ് ഭരണി വിശേഷിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്നത്. മീനമാസത്തിലെ തിരുവോണം നാൾ മുതൽ അശ്വതി നാൾ വരെയാണ് പ്രധാന ചടങ്ങുകൾ നടക്കുന്നത്. ഈ ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ ക്ഷേത്ര ദർശനം നടത്തുന്നത് ദുരിതമോചനത്തിന് ഉത്തമമെന്ന് ഭക്തർ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. The annual festival at the Sree Kurumba Bhagavathy Temple situated at Kodungalloor is famous across Kerala and is known as the Kodungalloor Bharani. It is 29 kilometres (18 mi) north of Kochi (Cochin) by National Highway 66 and 38 km (24 mi) from Thrissur. Kodungallur, being a port city at the northern end of the Kerala lagoons, was a strategic entry point for the naval fleets to the extensive Kerala backwaters. Scholars believe that Muziris, an ancient harbour located on the mouth of Periyar, coincides with modern-day Kodungallur. Central Kerala and western Tamil Nadu in early historic south India was ruled by the Chera line of rulers. The harbour was visited by navigators from all over the world, especially from the Mediterranean world. The Roman Empire had a continuous trading connection with the West Coast of India.
