Marinella's singing career: 1957-2022

Frank Sinatra once witnessed her live performance in the early 1970s and said "If she wanted to have an international career, it would only take two weeks for the whole world to know her!". On 10 April 2003, The New York Times critic wrote about her, saying "Her voice was earthy and strong, and she had the presence of an actress as she danced a few teasing steps or brought dignity to longing" (by Jon Pareles). She met up with Ingrid Bergman, who greatly admired her, as well as Diana Ross, Nana Mouskouri, Brazilian soccer legend Pelé and has worked with everyone important in the Greek music industry: composers, lyricists, singers, writers, producers and musicians. She is admires by poets, writers, singers, actors, both within Greece and Cyprus but throughout the world. She was the first Greek to sing at Eurovision in 1974 and is the 5th best selling female artist of all time in Greece. Known as "The Great Lady of Song" in Greece, she has an amazing, earthy and soulful voice. She is known for her breath support and control, her unique and distinctive vibrato, her vocal dips and folds, her ability to belt in a full chest voice with amazing strength, whippet notes, use her lovely falsetto and for her stage dancing and antics. Criticis and fellow singers in Greece & overseas have compared her to Edith Piaf, Amalia Rodrigues, Aretha Franklin and Shirley Bassey, which gives us an idea of her stature. Yet, Marinella has amassed impressive record sales, career highlights, awards, sell out concerts and a mass following to rival any icon.
