The Problem with Favoritism | Sin of Partiality

What is favoritism? Favoritism is giving unfair preferential treatment to one person at the expense of another. Favoritism is not saying that I prefer to hang out with my wife and sons instead of going to a work meeting. Or favoritism is not saying your favorite ice cream flavor is strawberry. In other words, favoritism is not preferences. It has to do with treating people unfairly in other to treat others better. In other words, you can only show somebody favoritism at somebody else’s expense. For example, if you choose to only be friends with funny people, then that comes at the expense of those who are unfunny. That is favoritism. So, the issue is not that we have preferences, but why we have certain preferences. James wants to challenge Christians by sayng that it is inconsistent for a Christian to show favoritism in James 2:1-13.
