Shirley Bassey - ALL I Ask Of You (Phantom Of the Opera - 1993 Recording)

1993 Shirley Bassey recorded a wonderful album of Andrew Lloyd Webber songs, including this great song, 'All I Ask Of You' on her 1993 Album titled, 'Shirley Bassey Sings the Songs of Andrew Lloyd Webber. This song is from the Musical, Phantom Of the Opera. Shirley actually recorded this song twice, each with two different song endings. After the completion of the 1993 version, I added on to the end of this clip Shirley's ending from her 1991 recording. ABOUT this Song: "All I Ask of You" is a song from the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical version of The Phantom of the Opera. It was released as a single by Cliff Richard and Sarah Brightman in 1986. In the UK it reached No. 3 on the Singles Chart and was certified Silver. It reached No. 1 in both Ireland and South Africa. The song occurs at the end of Act I of the musical. Christine Daaé, terrified of the Phantom after a stagehand is found murdered during an opera performance, flees to the roof of the Paris Opera House with her childhood friend, Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny. He promises to love her and keep her safe from the Phantom, who is listening in on the exchange without their knowledge. Heartbroken and furious at being spurned, he swears revenge against Raoul and causes the Opera's giant chandelier to crash to the floor. LYRICS: No more talk of darkness Forget those wide-eyed fears I'm here, nothing can harm you My words will warm and calm you Let me be your freedom Let daylight dry your tears I'm here with you, beside you To guard you and to guide you Say you love me Every waking moment Turn my head With talk of summertime Say you need me With you now and always Promise me that all you say is true That's all I ask of you Let me be your shelter Let me be your light You're safe: No-one will find you Your fears are far behind you All we need is freedom A world that's warm and right And you, always behind me To hold me and to hide me Say you'll share with me One love, one lifetime Let me lead you from your solitude Say you need me with you here, beside you Anywhere you go, let me go too That's all I ask of you Say the word And I will follow you Share each day with me Each night, each morning Say you feel the way I do That's all I ask of you Special Thanks to Pieter and Astrid from the Shirley Bassey blog and all those who have provided wonderful pictures of Shirley!
