The Japanese men's national volleyball team has begun its training camp in Okinawa in preparation for the Nations League, an international tournament to be held in Osaka in July. With the Nations League Osaka round starting on the 15th, the Japanese men's team, led by head coach Laurent Tillie, captain Yuki Ishikawa, ace Ran Takahashi, and Yuji Nishida, are working up a sweat on the court at Tomigusuku City Gymnasium. Captain Yuki Ishikawa: "We are all very happy that so many people have welcomed us, and we want to use this Okinawa training camp to get ourselves in good condition heading into the Osaka round." During the practice session, which was open to the press, the players showed relaxed expressions at times, but also put in some intense weight training to prepare their condition. The Japanese team is riding a wave of momentum with eight consecutive wins in the preliminary rounds. They are aiming to further improve their team strength during this week-long training camp in Okinawa in preparation for the four crucial remaining matches in Osaka. Kento Miyaura (Player): "I think we're having good practices every day, and we've been playing tough matches, so I think the team is gaining confidence. I hope this will be a period where we can grow both individually and as a team." Captain Ishikawa: "We'll be facing strong teams again in the Osaka round, so we want to prepare for that, and our ultimate goal is to qualify for the Asian Championships, so we want this training camp to be something that leads to that." The national team training camp in Okinawa will continue until July 11th. On the 10th, they will play an international friendly match against Canada at the Okinawa Suntory Arena.
