3-step Gel Plate Background For Journaling: Stamping With A Twist

Gel plates don't need to be used just to create a bunch of gel prints. Gel printing is a lot of fun and you can create a lot of beautiful papers from it. I wanted to try using the gel plate to transfer a pre-made background into my journal. Stencil masks can be tricky to use if you want a specific color for that stencil design. Because they mask the areas it covers, you would need to apply the color first, then mask, then apply a different color......sounds like gel printing to me:) Gel printing requires you to work backwards on your layers so there is a bit a pre-planning that needs to happen. While I was experimenting with the gel plate I thought why not try transferring the print into the journal directly instead of pulling the print, then gluing that in? This video shows you how simple it can be and it was only 3 steps. Mask off the area with your stencil mask, apply your background color then remove the stencil mask to apply the color you want the stencil design to be. I did add a few other details such as pastels for shading and some stamping but that is optional.
