It's been three years since I last set foot in Hokkaido! So, right after landing at Memanbetsu Airport, I tried operating my CB radio handheld transceiver at Lake Abashiri in Abashiri City. It was a weekday evening, but the conditions were excellent! I was able to make contact with various stations via E-skip. I even had a ragchew with Saitama YT220, who was also on a Hokkaido trip, using ground wave. Hokkaido really is a radio paradise! Especially during the E-skip season, amateur radio and citizen band radio are incredibly fun!
