Comedian Mocks Armed Citizens Taking On The Government

A comedian made a joke about gun owners thinking they can fight the government with AR-15s when the government has drones. It was funny. But it was also a terrible argument. Because underneath the joke is the same gun-control talking point we hear all the time: “The government has tanks, jets, and drones, so the Second Amendment is obsolete.” That sounds smart until you actually think about it. The Founders did not write the Second Amendment because they thought resisting tyranny would be easy. They wrote it because they had just won a war everyone told them they could not win. And the idea that modern technology makes armed resistance pointless falls apart the second you look at real history. Afghanistan had the most powerful military in the world fighting men with rifles, sandals, and old equipment for twenty years. The drones did not end the conversation. The satellites did not end the conversation. The Hellfires did not end the conversation. Because a drone can destroy a target. It cannot govern a population. It cannot hold every street corner. It cannot knock on every door. It cannot make people consent to being ruled. That’s the part the joke skips. The Second Amendment was never about making resistance easy. It was about making tyranny costly, bloody, uncertain, and dangerous enough that the government thinks twice before ever trying it. And here’s the real tell: The same people who say “you can’t fight the government” also don’t want citizens owning anything that would make the fight more equal. They built the gap. Then they point at the gap as proof your rights are pointless. That is the con. The bit was funny. But a good joke and a good argument are not the same thing.
