Händel: HWV 92. Clori, mia bella Clori (1/2) - Murray
Clori, mia bella Clori, HWV 92 Italian cantata for soprano, two violins and basso continuo Text: Anonymous Music: Georg Friedrich Händel (1685-1759) Composed: Rome, August-September 1708? ___ Video part 1 Recitativo: Clori, mia bella Clori Aria: Chiari lumi Recitativo: Temo ma pure io spero Aria: Ne' gigli e nelle rose ___ Ann Murray, soprano The Symphony of Harmony and Invention, conducted by Harry Christophers Recorded on 15-16 May 1997 ___ Recitativo Clori, mia bella Clori, lungi da te, che sei dolce d'ogni mio ben cagione amata, quest'alma sventurata, come viver potrà? ___ Translation (by Gwyn Morris): Recitativo Chloris, my lovely Chloris, far from you, who are the sweet beloved cause of all my happiness, how can this hapless soul of mine live? If only from those eyes lighting up your face, serene and beautiful, my wretched heart takes welcome sustenance, how can I remain far from you without dying of my torment? Aria Bright eyes, you who are my destiny, reply, without you can I live? You, who do not like my suffering, now compassionately tell me 'Yes', but my heart fears you mean 'No'. Recitativo I fear, yet I hope, my lovely, not to die, for that same thought which tortures me, still tells me: If you hold your Chloris' lovely appearance imprinted within your heart, the noble virtue of your undying love, wherever you direct your steps, will make you see her in every object. Aria In the lilies and in the roses, my dear, I shall see your beautiful charms. In the sunshine and in the stars, I shall adore the reflection of your lovely eyes. ___ Eser.
