A Walk Through a Contemporary Architect-Designed Home - Verte Noir | Amazing Spaces
Set within a carefully considered landscape, Verte Noir is a contemporary architect-designed home by Zeanne & Goss Architects, with interiors led by Zeanne Duminy Bornman and built over two years with Kings Hill Construction. Designed slowly and intentionally, the home evolved space by space - allowing architecture and interiors to respond organically to the way its owners live. Strong architectural lines are softened by warm, tactile materials, creating a residence that feels refined yet deeply lived in. Drawing inspiration from their previous home, the owners carried forward oak engineered floors, tiled bathrooms and thoughtfully selected tapware, creating a sense of continuity throughout. The kitchen — inspired by Athena Calderone - pairs marble surfaces with a striking navy island, anchoring the heart of the home with quiet confidence. One of the most defining moments in the design lies in the courtyard. Originally imagined as a simple lemon tree, it evolved into a serene pond finished with Akachic tiles and sparrow sculptures by Otto du Plessis. Landscape design by Mary Maurel further embeds the home within its environment, layering architecture with nature. Lighting - both natural and artificial - was central to the design, shaping atmosphere from morning through evening. Views, water, and sound work together to create a calm, immersive experience, while standout spaces such as the marble fluted fireplace, tiled pool, fire pit and expansive balcony reflect the owners’ personal rhythm of living and gathering. Verte Noir is a contemporary home built over time - shaped by architecture, materiality and restraint. Welcome to Travelling Tuesday and the world of Amazing Spaces.
