Back at home, Martin and Smitty continue their tense discussion about Martin’s drastic idea to fix their marriage — turning himself in. Smitty is immediately against it, terrified of the fallout it could have on their family. He worries about what would happen to the kids and points out that Martin’s confession could lead to arrests for not just him, but also Vernon, Anita, and Bill — with Joey possibly retaliating to keep them all quiet. Frustration mounts as Martin struggles to find a way forward for their relationship. When Smitty accuses him of trying to manipulate the situation again, emotions boil over — until Martin manages to prove his sincerity. The confrontation softens into something more hopeful when Smitty, taking a breath, suggests they try couples therapy and revive their connection with regular date nights.
