A calm and unhurried walking journey that leads you into a hidden corner of the mountains in southwest China — Shaxi Ancient Town. Located in Dali Prefecture, Yunnan Province, Shaxi is a well-preserved ancient town with a history of over a thousand years. It was once an important stop along the Ancient Tea Horse Road, where traders and travelers passed through for centuries. Though small in scale, Shaxi retains its traditional street layout, the Sideng Street market, an ancient theater stage, and surrounding pastoral landscapes. Unlike many over-commercialized ancient towns, Shaxi moves at a slower pace, with relatively few tourists. Local residents still live, farm, and trade here.
