He had played a key role in Naveen Patnaik, undisputed supremo of BJD, retaining power in the State in 2014 and 2019. Then he joined BJD taking volunteer retirement from IAS and led the party from the front at the 2025 hustings. It was another matter the party lost the election to BJP. After the poll debacle, Pandian announced that he has taken Sanyas from politics keeping his words uttered in an election rally that he would quit politics if BJD would lose the election. Since the party’s defeat in June 2024, he has never been to Sankha Bhawan, the BJD State head quarter. But he was looking after the BJD party affairs on behalf of Naveen Patnaink being present in Naveen Niwas. Pandian is meeting party MLAs and senior leaders for the last two days and he is opening up his heart before them. India Whispers overheard that Pandian was saying he would not involve himself in BJD politics.
