An attack that—at this time—is unexplained, with a man hospitalized in serious condition at Niguarda Hospital and a young man arrested. This is the story of what happened on Saturday morning in a bar on Via Capecelatro, in the San Siro neighborhood of Milan. There, around 7:30 a.m., a 22-year-old man of Gambian origin stabbed a 55-year-old man. According to the reconstruction of the incident by law enforcement, the young man was walking down the street when—for no apparent reason—he took a knife with a 7-centimeter blade from his pocket and attacked the 55-year-old man, stabbing him at least 20 times in the back and abdomen. The attack was stopped by passersby and bar patrons, who immediately alerted emergency services. Emergency medical personnel, who arrived on the scene within minutes, transported the victim to Niguarda Hospital, where he remains hospitalized for serious injuries. The 22-year-old, however, did not have time to escape. A State Police patrol stopped him a short distance from the bar and arrested him. According to initial information, the 22-year-old had arrived in Milan from out of the region. Investigators are now working to reconstruct the circumstances of the attack. At this time, it is not clear whether the two knew each other, nor is it clear why the young man attacked the 55-year-old. The young man's family, interviewed by investigators, reportedly explained that he had never been treated for psychiatric problems in the past.
