Draw the Orbital Overlap Diagram for NH3 (ammonia)
The nitrogen atom of ammonia (NH3) is sp3 hybridized. So, you'll need to show FOUR sp3 hybridized orbitals surrounding the N atom, tetrahedrally. I draw a tripod of three orbitals, then the fourth going straight up. Three of those orbitals overlap with a hydrogen atom to form a single bond, and the fourth holds nitrogen's lone pair. I like putting the lone pair on the very top, since it emphasizes the molecule's trigonal pyramidal (AX3E) VSEPR shape. Check me out: http://www.chemistnate.com
