We have three pumps (LPFP) in front of us – two Bosch LPFPs and one Kamaz LPFP. Two of them are faulty, and one is fully functional. Now I'll show you how to determine whether the booster pump is working properly. The most common malfunctions are: the main spring on the Bosch pump has broken. We press it, it pumps, but it still doesn't work. How does this affect the car? At low revs, the camshaft presses and it pumps slowly, but as the revs increase, because the spring is broken, the piston rod doesn't have time to retract, and it stops pumping. The next malfunction is with the Kamaz fuel injection pump. The booster pumps have plastic valves inside, pressed by thin, weak springs. If these valves don't hold, the pump starts to work poorly. How to determine if the valves are working? We take diesel fuel and fill it to the brim where it will be sucked in. We press the piston rod - air bubbles appear. We release it - it sucks in - this means the pump is not working. Now, how should a working pump behave? Fill it to the brim with diesel fuel, press the plunger, and see that there are no bubbles and no air is getting in. Release it, and it's sucked in. Pump malfunctions can vary, and either it doesn't work at all, or, as in these two cases, it works but pumps poorly. If it doesn't work, it's also called an automatic pump, meaning that when the pump is running, it automatically pumps diesel fuel. If it doesn't work at all, how can we check? We can't start the car. If we pumped it manually, we started the car, it ran for a while, and then stalled. We started the manual pump again, the car runs, we pumped it again, the car starts to stall, we start pumping again, and it starts working normally again. This is understandable, since we're replacing an automatic pump with a manual one. It turns out that our automatic pump isn't working. In these cases, when the valves aren't holding tight and the spring is broken, the car starts and runs, but it has poor pulling power, especially under load. If you install a transparent hose, you'll see that the diesel fuel is flowing slowly. When the pump is working properly, the hoses pulsate, and you can feel the diesel fuel flowing.
