Hai sedie di famiglia? Prima di buttarle, guarda questo
Do you have family chairs that are starting to wobble? Before replacing them, discover why 50-year-old ones are worth their weight in gold—and not because of sentiment. 🪑 Do you have chairs that need fixing? Message us on WhatsApp 📲: http://wa.me/393487620686 When an eighty-year-old chair arrives at the workshop, the first thing that strikes you is always the same: how is this wood still so solid? Yet chairs from twenty years ago arrive, well-built, with the same joints—and you can already feel them giving way. For years, I thought it was the construction's fault. Then I realized that the problem lies much earlier: in the wood itself, in the way that tree grew. In this video, I'll explain something they don't teach you in school but that every restorer learns early on. Each tree ring is made up of two completely different parts: the early wood, which forms in spring, is lighter and less dense; and latewood, which forms in summer and autumn, dark, compact, resistant. A tree that grows slowly—as they did until a few decades ago—produces a lot of latewood. One that grows quickly, as in modern plantations, produces mostly earlywood. Same name, completely different internal structure. The consequence for chairs is direct: a chair built fifty years ago, even if it has the same joints and measurements as a modern one, starts from a structurally denser, more tenacious material, more capable of withstanding time. It's not the fault of those who make chairs today—it's the wood they're made from. So if you have family chairs that are starting to have some problems, before buying new ones, think about what you're buying. Those chairs are made from a wood that's no longer available on the market today. Those trees are no longer there. Hold on to them. If you want to know if it's worth fixing your chairs, you'll find the link below in the description to contact us. ________________________ 📍 Chair Repair - Via Altobelli 6, Bologna 🌐 https://seggiolai.it/ 📧 [email protected] 👍 Facebook: facebook.com/Seggiolai 📸 Instagram: instagram.com/seggiolai/ 🎥 Subscribe to the channel for more videos on artisanal chair restoration #ChairRestoration #ItalianCraftsmanship #ChairRepair #AntiqueWood #FamilyChairs ________________________ 0:00 Intro 0:28 The mystery: why are old chairs sturdier? 0:56 How a tree grows: early and late wood 1:44 The comparison: 1918 wood vs. 2018 wood 3:10 Same chair, different wood: the practical consequence 3:58 Before throwing them away, think about what you're buying 5:02 Contact us
