EU Methane Emissions Regulation and Implications for Offshore Producers 📱

The EU Methane Emissions Regulation (MER, Regulation (EU) 2024/1787), which entered into force on 4 August 2024, introduces new obligations for the monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) of methane emissions, as well as requirements for their mitigation. The Regulation applies both to emissions from domestic EU production and to those associated with imports of crude oil, natural gas, and coal. While adopted at the EU level, its implementation is largely decentralised, placing primary responsibility for enforcement on Member States – particularly on newly designated Competent Authorities (CAs). This webinar will: • Examine the provisions targeting emissions from inactive, plugged, and abandoned wells, and to assess their implications for offshore oil and gas producers • Provide an update on the early stages of implementation of the Regulation and explore what this reveals about how it is likely to be applied in practice • Include a live panel discussion
