Osaka City University originated as the Osaka Commercial Training Institute, while Osaka Prefecture University originated as the Veterinary Training Institute. Both universities have a history spanning approximately 140 years, and have developed alongside Osaka, a major city and transportation hub known as the water capital. By leveraging their geographical advantages and organically combining theory and practice, both universities have served as central institutions responsible for the development of the spiritual culture and industrial and economic growth needed by the people of Osaka.
