He has carried the weight with him since childhood, and the revelation that they aren’t truly brothers pushed him over the edge. Thor has been chasing Loki across the nine realms for several years. He captures him many times, and Loki always escapes, but Frigga’s death brings them together again. He doesn’t understand what drives Loki to keep pushing him away.
