Derecho, Sociedad y Etica

In this episode of "Let's Talk About...", hosted by Carlos Berbell, director of the legal journal Confilegal, we address one of the most urgent and complex questions of our time: how do the technological revolution, artificial intelligence, political polarization, and the loss of institutional trust impact the foundations of our legal and social coexistence? To shed light on the present and future of the rule of law, we have two guests of the highest academic and institutional prestige: Ana Fernández Tresguerres, Secretary General of the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation of Spain (the first woman to hold this position in its almost three centuries of history) and practicing notary; and Pablo Lucas Murillo de la Cueva, President of the Administrative Chamber of the Supreme Court, magistrate of the National Intelligence Center (CNI), and member of the Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences. This dialogue addresses issues such as "The Fourth Technological Revolution and Artificial Intelligence," where the speakers analyze the enormous challenge of adapting traditional norms to AI and deep learning; social media, disinformation, and freedom of expression: We raise the great democratic paradox of our time. Freedom of information is vital for democracy, but anonymity on social media facilitates the spread of fake news and slander; as well as trust in the justice system and institutional loyalty: Faced with biased criticism and polarization, our guests defend the independence of the judiciary as the cornerstone of democracy, the efforts of judges to issue rulings in clear and understandable language for citizens, and the relevance of European reports on the rule of law in combating corruption.
