[eSVT] Schéma fonctionnel de la production d'hormones chez la femme

This video presents a functional diagram of female sex hormone production and the regulation of the ovarian (ovary) and uterine (uterus) cycles. The hypothalamic-pituitary complex is activated during puberty to trigger the production of female sex hormones: estrogen and progesterone. The hypothalamus produces GnRH, which activates the pituitary gland. The pituitary gland produces FSH, which activates follicle growth (days 1 to 14: follicular phase), but also produces LH (days 14 to 28: luteal phase), which maintains the corpus luteum. A surge in LH and FSH is also observed on day 14, which allows ovulation. In the ovary, the follicles produce estrogen, which acts on the uterus to activate the endometrium, or uterine lining (thickening and vascularization). The corpus luteum produces estrogen and progesterone, which facilitate gestation (pregnancy) by preventing contractions of the myometrium (the muscular part of the uterus).
