Wounds and Courage: A Paratrooper’s Battle on Iwo Jima | Georgia in WWII
Mr. William Hoopes was born in Tennessee in November of 1924. Though he started his military career in the Navy, Mr. Hoopes later volunteered as a Paratrooper for the Marine Corps. He discusses his time on Iwo Jima where he was attacked and injured several times by enemy combatants and tried to save the life of a sniper victim.
