Nova Cruz, RN, começa no século XVI com uma hospedaria para boiadeiros

The history of Nova Cruz, RN, begins in the 16th century with an inn for cattle drivers on the banks of the Curimataú River, evolving from a stopping point into a village called Anta Esfolada, due to a local legend about an evil tapir. The legend culminates with a missionary planting a cross on the site, giving rise to the name Nova Cruz, elevated to a town in 1852 and a city in 1919, becoming the "Queen of the Potiguar Hinterland".
