In 1912, the Royal Bavarian State Railways began electrifying their lines. Two of the first electric locomotives immediately stand out: While their contemporaries were still familiar with the rod drive of steam locomotives, these two machines already featured individual axle drive, a standard feature on every modern electric locomotive today. Built by Krauss & Bergmann's Electric Works and based in Freilassing, they were used on the steep route to Berchtesgaden. These locomotives were simply far ahead of their time. 🚂 After the First World War, the German Reichsbahn took over the locomotives. From 1926, they operated as Class E73. They were finally retired from service in 1937 and 1941; one was even converted into a snowplow and continued to serve faithfully for several more years. Brawa has recreated this very story in HO scale: In this video, we show you both models, the EG4 of the Royal Bavarian State Railways (K.Bay.Sts.B.). The E73 in Era I (item no. 70178) and the DRG E73 in Era II (item no. 70182). Unboxing, detailed check, and sound demo comparing both locomotives. 🔍 EG4 K.Bay.Sts.B.
