Puławy - Pałac Czartoryskich - Śladami Izabeli Czartoryskiej

The palace in Puławy is a fascinating place with a remarkable and turbulent history. Once inhabited by the Lubomirski, Sieniawski, and Czartoryski families, it enjoyed a period of splendor, filled with beautiful furniture, works of art, and ornaments in the Baroque, Rococo, and Classicist styles. It hosted Poles who have made their mark on Polish history, including Tadeusz Kościuszko and Józef Piłsudski. The palace was also visited by guests from abroad, including Tsar Alexander I. Today, it houses a museum, where you can see many interesting exhibits, such as the Grunwald Sword. Equally interesting and worth visiting is the beautiful park surrounding the palace, which houses the first Polish museum: the Temple of the Sibyl, the Gothic House, the Greek House, the Marynka Palace, the English Steps, the Alexandrine House, the Water Tower, the Roman Gate, the Chinese Gazebo, and numerous paths. This place wouldn't be so special if it weren't for one of the palace's owners, Princess Izabela Czartoryska. Although her life wasn't always a bed of roses, she remained devoted to her homeland until the end, and her life's goal was to collect and preserve memorabilia related to the history of our country and paintings by famous artists for future generations. Her collection included Leonardo da Vinci's "Lady with an Ermine." Izabela herself was an extraordinary, courageous, creative, and incredibly colorful person. She was interested in art, politics, traveled, had affairs, and raised children. Thanks to her, many sculptures, paintings, and memorabilia from old castles, palaces, and churches were saved, and Puławy began to be called "Little Athens."
