We thought that we had been defeated, but when the successor of Imam Khamenei was elected, we realized that this nation - even if its leader had been martyred - would be led by thousands more. It will continue to rise, endure and confront the Great Satan, America." 8. Wide of Tehran's Grand Mosallah courtyard filled with mourners ++NIGHT SHOT++ 9. Various of mourners ++NIGHT SHOTS++ STORYLINE: Crowds of mourners continued to visit Tehran's Grand Mosalla on Saturday, the first day of a dayslong funeral ceremony for Iran's late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The funeral for Khamenei, who ruled Iran for decades before he was killed at age 86 in a February 28 airstrike in the opening moments of the Iran war, could provide a boost for the country's theocracy and its new supreme leader, his son Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei. The caskets of Khamenei and several of his family members, who were also killed in the strike, were laid out inside the vast prayer complex as mourners paid their respects. Some visitors wrote anti-U.S. and anti-Israel slogans on a black graffiti wall, while others held banners and flags. Among the mourners was Nidal Al Borei from Gaza, who said Khamenei's death "came as a shock". "We thought that we had been defeated, but when the successor of Imam Khamenei was elected, we realized that this nation - even if its leader had been martyred - would be led by thousands more," he said.
