Agro Pontino - Parte 1 - Le Paludi Pontine

In this first episode, Annibale Folchi tells us about the Pontine Marshes before human intervention and the first reclamation attempts by Pope Pius VI. Annibale Folchi (1928-2019), a journalist and scholar of the history of the Pontine Marshes, recounts the events of a territory steeped in history and stories. Folchi's archival research yielded numerous discoveries: from the covert financing of the Fascist Party by the Opera Nazionale Combatanti (National Combatants' Association); to the authorship of the order, by Mussolini, not Hitler, to flood the reclaimed lands in October 1943; from the illegal building that gave rise to the city of Latina in 1932; to the true reasons for the relocation of the exiles from Ponza to Ventotene. With twelve titles and over six thousand pages, Annibale Folchi has laid the cornerstones for the history, not only local, of Latina, its province and the other "new cities", Sabaudia, Pontinia, Aprilia and Pomezia.
