A Shanghai-based company has reportedly begun limited production of immersion deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography machines, planning to deliver five units this year and increase to 20 next year. These machines will supply clients such as SMIC, Changxin Memory, and Hua Hong, directly challenging ASML's market dominance. Following the news, US tech stocks plummeted, with ASML falling 8.42% to a June low, Best Semiconductor plunging 9.65%, and Applied Materials and Lam Research also closing lower. Industry analysts suggest that if China successfully mass-produces lithography machines, they could replace ASML's equipment and support Beijing's chip self-sufficiency strategy.
