Voices from the Green Transition - South Africa: Leaving Coal

Focusing on the global South, 'Voices from the Green Transition' follows workers navigating coal phase-out in South Africa. The short film explores the environmental impacts and inadequate working conditions in Chile’s lithium sector, capturing the tensions and uncertainties of transition in practice. This film was developed as part of a research study on workers, trade unions and climate change across 14 countries at the University of Leeds. The research explores what the International Labour Organisation terms a “Just Transition” – how economies decarbonise in ways that are fair and inclusive. It highlights initiatives and lived experiences from different contexts.
