Developing a Model of Reality - Tony Barr

Event: DSI Spring Symposium 2025 About the Talk: Tony Barr will discuss the early history of the SAS system for data analytics and his current work, A Model Of Reality (AMOR). AMOR aims to create a world where young children and adults can understand and flourish in programming, databases, mathematics, and data analytics. AMOR uses diagrams and flowcharts to make reading and writing programs easy and intuitive for learners and seasoned users. The mission is to enable users to navigate through knowledge space naturally, as they navigate the real world. About the Speaker: Tony Barr is an American programming language designer, software engineer, and inventor. He is best known for developing SAS and co-founding SAS Institute, advancing data management and analytics. His innovations include automated lumber yield optimization and the Automated Classification of Medical Entities (ACME). Currently, Mr. Barr is focused on "A Model of Reality" (AMOR), a conceptual framework aimed at making programming and data analytics more intuitive and accessible. ​ About the Organizer: DSI is a student-led club at the University of Florida. Our primary goal is to help fellow students learn more about data science, artificial intelligence and machine learning.
