Reaction/Comparison/Review- Jim Croce vs Melanie Safka - Lover's Cross -

This is a reaction/comparison/review of Jim Croce and Melanie Safka performing "Lover's Cross". The song is written by Jim and originally released on Jim's last album "I Got A Name" released in December of 1973. Jim keeps the song simple musically with two acoustic guitars and adds a bass guitar a little over a minute into the song. Jim sings the song like telling a story. He is leaving his girlfriend because he doesn't want to hang on a lover's cross. Listen closely to jim's voice; it makes the whole song. Melanie covered the song in 1974 on her album "Madrugada". Melanie adds very detailed instrumentation by using keyboards, guitar, drums, bongos and strings. Her vocals are pure pain for the task ahead outlined in the lyrics. Melanie has a very unique voice which she is not afraid to use in this cover version. She is masterful in doing cover versions and reinterpreting the songs. Enjoy ...
