In this video, I'd like to present the 10 smallest tram networks in Germany, in collaboration with the channel "ModellbahnweltTV". Therefore, it was necessary to narrow down the networks considered for this video. The ranking could change significantly depending on the selection criteria! In addition to "normal" tram networks, we also included subways and light rail systems that are frequently connected to the tram network, or where, apart from incorrect platform heights, a vehicle swap would be easily possible. Thus, in cities like Düsseldorf, Essen, and Frankfurt, both the subway and tram lines were included, while in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, and Nuremberg, the subway lines were not considered. Interconnected networks were always counted as a single network if they were operated by a single entity, as is the case in Mannheim, Ludwigshafen, and Heidelberg. Routes governed by railway construction and operating regulations were excluded, unless they were exclusively used by trams and not connected to the DB network, as is the case, for example, in the Rhine-Neckar region. Despite this limitation, there are recurring instances where a purely criteria-based decision quickly reaches its limits. Therefore, in individual cases, a subjective decision had to be made as to which routes would be included in the evaluation and which would not.
