Cururueiros de Araritaguaba e Nenê do Cururu: Desafio Porto Feliz x Itu

Anhemby Cultural is a festival of integrated arts, culture, and the creative economy that seeks to integrate the seven cities that make up the Roteiro dos Bandeirantes: Santana do Parnaíba, Pirapora do Bom Jesus, Cabreúva, Itu, Salto, Porto Feliz, and Tietê. Our starting point is the Tietê River, a common element that has brought development and cultural richness to each of the cities. It is these riches that we intend to promote and promote during the festival with performances of dance, music, theater, films, and soirees. The project was conceived by director and dance teacher Alessandra Avancini Moreau, through the Estação & Cultura Arts Center, and developed by a network of professionals from the seven cities in the region. The second day of the Festival's program brings Traditional Culture for those who enjoy a good cururu. Cururueiros de Araritaguaba is a group of artists from the city of Porto Feliz, São Paulo, who together have kept the cururu tradition alive for over 20 years. The cururu challenge is one of the most important cultural manifestations of the Middle Tietê region of São Paulo, originating from the Festas do Divino (Divine Festival). The cururu is performed to the sound of the viola caipira (country guitar) with improvised rhymes and verses, transforming the verses into a challenge, where humor is a guaranteed presence and the limit of attacks is respect for the Sacred. The Cururueiros de Araritaguaba group's main objective is to maintain a tradition that has little visibility. Through their performances, the group keeps alive one of the oldest religious expressions in Brazil. Along with them, we have the participation of another old-time cururueiro, Nenê do Cururu, from the city of Itu, who transmits the tradition of singing in the Middle Tietê region. This challenge is going to be a blast!!! This project was supported by Aldir Blanc Law 14.017 through Proac Lab 40/2020. Good show!
