ONLY 12 DAYS LEFT FOR MOHARRUM-2026; WHY HAS THE TELANGANA GOVERNMENT STILL NOT CONDUCTED THE ARRANGEMENTS MEETING...? Mr. Amjed Ullah Khan, Spokesman of Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), strongly criticized Sri Anumula Revanth Reddy, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Telangana, for failing to convene the Moharrum-2026 arrangements meeting despite only 12 days remaining for the commencement of the holy month. Mr. Khan stated that MBT had personally met Sri Mohammed Azharuddin, Minister for Minorities Welfare, Government of Telangana, and Sri Mohammed Ali Shabbir, Advisor to the Hon'ble Chief Minister on Minority Affairs, nearly 45 days ago and requested them to immediately convene a meeting of all concerned departments to discuss Moharrum arrangements. He pointed out that MBT had specifically raised the issue of procuring an elephant for carrying the historic Bibi Ka Alam procession on the 10th of Moharrum. Every year, the Telangana Government faces difficulties in arranging an elephant from other states at the last moment. Therefore, MBT had suggested that the State Government purchase its own elephant well in advance to avoid recurring problems. Unfortunately, neither the concerned Minister, the Advisor, nor any Congress minority leader took the matter seriously. Mr. Khan questioned how the required civic and infrastructure works would be completed when only 12 days remain before Moharrum. He explained that it takes at least one month for estimates to be prepared by Assistant Engineers, approved by GHMC authorities, sanctioned by the Commissioner, followed by the tendering process and allotment of works to contractors. Under such circumstances, he asked how the government intends to sanction and ground the necessary works in time. He emphasized that thousands of devotees and visitors from across India and different parts of the world visit Hyderabad during Moharrum, particularly to witness and perform Ziyarat of Bibi Ka Alam, making timely arrangements a matter of utmost importance. Mr. Khan alleged that the State Government displays a discriminatory attitude towards Muslim festivals and religious observances. He noted that for festivals such as Ganesh and Bonalu, review meetings are conducted well in advance and all required works are completed before the commencement of the celebrations. However, when it comes to Muslim festivals or the sacred mourning month of Moharrum, there is an intentional delay in conducting meetings, sanctioning works and executing development activities. Mr. Khan also criticized the AIMIM leadership, stating that despite having one Member of Parliament, seven MLAs, two MLCs and several former corporators, the party has failed to exert pressure on the State Government to convene the Moharrum arrangements meeting or ensure that necessary works are undertaken. Recalling the period when MBT represented Yakutpura and Chandrayangutta Assembly Constituencies during 1994-95, Mr. Khan said that late Mohammed Amanullah Khan had successfully pressured the then government to conduct Moharrum arrangements meetings nearly four months in advance and ensured that all required works were completed before the commencement of Moharrum. He added that it was under the leadership of late Mohammed Amanullah Khan that a dedicated Moharrum Fund was introduced, which continues to this day.
