1:350 NX-01 Startup Sequence (and then some)
This is the current startup sequence currently coded into my NX-01 build, complete with sound effects and music. The startup ends with the orange bussard collectors coming on, and there are a few scenes which follow just because. Shot and edited at 4k 60fps on a Samsung Galaxy S23. I started building this 24" long model of the NX-01 from the TV show, "Enterprise" (later to become "Star Trek: Enterprise"), a gift from my incredibly generous father-in-law, not realizing that it would turn into more than a year long project. Not satisfied with the accuracy of existing after-market lighting systems, I decided to design, build, and program my own. It kept evolving until every one of the 310 internal LEDs is wired into 1 of 24 software-controlled lighting groups. The software can be updated and the lighting controlled in real time from a PC or tablet via USB jack on the back of the custom-built base. This video was shot in front of a $9 black polyester tablecloth with a hand-held phone. Scenes were then assembled in Adobe Premiere Pro, my shaky hands smoothed out with the "Warp Stabilizer" effect. The music is Dennis McCarthy's "First Flight," from the "Star Trek: Enterprise" soundtrack, and the sound effects are heavily modified royalty-free sounds. Ship: NX-01 Enterprise, designed by the incomparable Doug Drexler Model: Polar Lights 1:350 NX-01 Supplemental aztec decals: G-Cals Lighting: Arduino + TLC5947 24-channel lighting controller board, various other components (MOSFETs, Transistors, countless resistors) Model construction, painting, finishing, lighting system design, wiring, studio footage analysis, Arduino programming, video composition, video editing, and sound effects by yours truly. A fairly detailed photo build log is available with comments here, if you're interested: https://imgur.com/a/qkVla0U The entire startup sequence, complete with audio, can be triggered from the web UI - more on that soon!
